Ophthalmology

The Ophthalmology Department.St. John’s Hospital, a joined hand with CBM Germany has 2 fully equipped operation theatres with 3 tables where all ophthalmic micro-surgeries can be performed. We have a Humphrey Automated Field. Analyser, which is an essential tool in the early diagnosis of glaucoma. We acquired the Phaco-Emulsifier using which structureless cataract surgery can be performed. Thus we are able to provide state of the art treatment of cataract, glaucoma and retinal diseases.

The Community Eye Care Project started on , to serve the community by providing preventive, curative and rehabilitative services to the blind people in Idukki district. The target population is 4.5 lakhs and the trained health workers directly screened a population of 4.08 lakhs and performed more than 10000 cataract surgeries during the last 11 years.
